Baldwin Boys' High School takes its name from John Baldwin, a renowned philanthropist from Berea, Ohio, USA, whose generous support helped secure its early foundations. The name Baldwin is of German origin and is traditionally associated with the meaning “bold winner”, a quiet echo of the courage and determination that have defined the school’s journey.
The school's story began on Alexandria Street, Bengaluru, with a mission to educate the children of the English-speaking Methodist community. Its early years brought considerable challenges, including limited funds and falling enrolment, which placed the school’s future in doubt.
When the institution faced the prospect of closure, a gift of 3,000 US dollars from John Baldwin changed everything. The contribution enabled the acquisition of land and buildings, restored the school’s sense of direction, and laid a stronger foundation for its educational mission.
What began as a determined effort to sustain a school grew into a legacy of learning that continues across generations.
